how to deny in dota 2?

I read this

Still not 100% sure. It's ctrl + a then cilck the mob? or will ctrl + a work? Also what is the right click for?

a + left button of the mouse.
You can only deny units with low health. You can also deny your allied heroes if they are poisoned.

The creep needs to be below a threshold amount. Approximately slightly less than 50% if I'm not mistaken.
